The most convenient route is overnight Porstmouth to St.Malo
and then on excellent roads via Rennes, Nantes, La Rochelle, Rochefort - about 4 hours travel time
Another good route is overnight Portsmouth to Caen and then by good roads to Rennes, Nantes, La Rochelle, Rochefort - about 5½ hours travel time Other routes from Calais, Cherbourg and Roscoff entail a longer journey.

The Channel-Tunnel may be your choice if you live in the south-east.This avoids having to make a ferry booking.
